Progress
Through this blog the main points which I will be covering are:
- Report on any new skills which I have learnt after every lesson, including new techniques learnt in Photoshop and any research which I have gained which will help me with my project.
- Progress of the project, such as the Film Poster Project, by updating on this blog I can review how my progress on the poster is coming along and then I am able to see what I need to do next on the poster. Including my research into film posters, the development of my ideas for my film poster, sketches of my film poster with colour and finally producing the film poster itself.
- Targets: Which is what I would like to learn and develop my new skills further within programmes such as Photoshop and what I would like to learn more about.
- How an image can be transformed instantly by choosing one effect, such as a paint effect, and within the effect you are able to adjust certain features within the effect, for the image to be exactly how you intend it to be.
- Which file formats are used within Photoshop and the main file format used in Photoshop is PSD, as this saves the file with the layers and does not change the image. Also, the colour output which is used for printing an image, as the image colour needs to be in CMYK format, as this is the format which the printer prints in.
- I have also learnt how to put the layers into folders, therefore you can easily see which layers are where within the file and these layers will remain in the folder which they are placed, this helps in managing the layers within a file.
- Iconography: This is icons or symbols used within the poster to suggest and relate to the films genre. For my film poster my theme is fashion and therefore the item and symbol which suggests this through my poster is that the main image is a shoe, which shows and relates directly to fashion, as this is a fashion item. Through using this shoe as a symbol, it also suggests the target audience of the film and that my film target audience is girls, as the film's theme is Fashion.
- The Composition of the film poster is the way in which the poster is presented and the layout of the poster. With using Rule of Thirds, this helps in showing where the main subject (image) should be placed on the poster, and how this will have an effect on the poster. On my film poster I am planning to place the main image to the right of the film poster, as the image is a high heel this image fits into the layout of the film poster as the heel is tall and reaches nearly to the top of the Film Poster.
- Colours: The colours within a film poster suggest the genre of the film, and for my film poster my colour scheme is Blue's and Green's, these are colours which work well together and blend well, therefore this represents what fashion is about, which is standing out. So these colours represent this aspect within fashion and can show an extra element about the film and the reasons behind the colours. This colour scheme also suggests that my target audience is girls, as these are colours which may appeal to girls, these colours are not the obvious colours which would appeal to the target audience of girls, as the colours associated with girls would probably be pinks and purples.
- Canvas Set Up: The canvas set up in Photoshop helps present the image you are creating, and the basic Canvas Setup is International Paper A4, Resolution of 100, this is a basic canvas setup and the best set up for what I am using the canvas for. The layout for my Film Poster is portrait, so therefore the canvas needs to be in portrait mode. The colour format which also needs to be included in the set up is that it needs to be in CMYK format, this allows the image to be printed, as when documents are printed, the printer uses 4 colours in the format of CMYK.
