Week 1: Deconstruction of the Movie Poster, 'Grown Ups'

      (Grown Ups Movie Poster)

 Grown Ups Movie Poster Deconstruction

I have learnt how to deconstruct movie posters and learnt what features are on the poster and how all the features on the poster come together to show what the movie is like. This movie features 5 men who have known each other since they were younger and are reunited all together and go on holiday with each other and with their families. They show how they have not actually grown up through the years and they are still kids at heart. The poster captures how they all were when they were kids, but it contrasts with the title of Grown Ups and suggests that they actually have not grown up even though they are now ‘Grown Ups’.

1) The title featured on Movie poster is very bold and to me, is the first feature I notice. This title is in 3D and blue bold writing, this stands out and therefore you will be able to remember the name of the movie even if you do not remember the whole poster. The title is placed underneath the main image in the centre and catches your attention as the first place you might look is the centre to see the title and then look up to the main image.

2) The main image on the poster: This image is introducing the 5 main characters within the film, the 5 men when they were younger and at school. From these pictures you can see what their characters will be like within the film, and as I have seen the film the pictures on the poster do definitely reflect their characters in the film. The style of pictures are as though you would see them in a year book, they are very much like school photos, which shows that they are still quite young and in school.

3) Tagline: The poster features a tagline which links in with the movie, the tagline on this poster says ‘Back then they were too young to know better’, this is shown at the start of the 5 pictures and then towards the end of the pictures along the page it continues the tagline ‘Now they have no excuse’. This tagline has a great effect as it is almost suggesting that they have grown up through time and become adults.

4) The colour Scheme is very neutral as the writing is in black and the title then stands out in blue, with the white background, this has a great effect as from the poster you are able to tell what kind of movie this will be, to me this poster does suggest comedy as the pictures show everyone smiling, which shows how the characters come across.

5) Also featured on the poster: The names of the actors are featured above their picture, which again shows how the pictures are like school photos. The release date is shown at the bottom of the title, to let everyone know when they can see this movie and then there is also a website for people to go onto to find out more information about the film and the characters.
