Week 1: My Progress and Learning About Film Posters

Over the past three days I have learnt a lot about how just from a film poster you can tell who the audience for that film can be, and what features are included within a film poster. This has helped me in developing my ideas for a new film and for this film I have to create a film poster to appeal to a certain target audience. My ideas for this poster were that I definitely want the poster to stand out and to catch people’s attention if they walk past it. The way I believe a film poster to be eye catching is firstly the title; to me if the title of the film stands out from the rest of the poster, with bold colourings, then I would remember the film title and also the poster. The main image on the poster always catches my attention and from the image on the poster you can tell a lot about what the film is about and the audience it may appeal to. As with a powerful image it is able to tell a lot about the movie and most probably features the main actors and actresses in the film.

From this research I am now planning my own movie poster for a new film, and this research which I have collected will help me as I now know what needs to be included on a movie poster, including the colour scheme, credits, title, release date, actresses and actors names and the main image. These are all essential features for a film poster to appeal to the target audience.
